Today, I want to remind you of a powerful truth. When the Word of God says that we are more than overcomers in Christ, it means we are more than overcomers. The Word is the truth and the spoken word of God.
Romans 8:37 declares, "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."
We often go through times in our life when we don't feel like overcomers, but that does not mean we cannot overcome.
Sometimes, our struggles are physical; sometimes, they are spiritual, or they could be mental and emotional struggles. It is okay to ask the Lord why you are struggling and if there is something you need to address. Is it something that you need to work on, or is it just a trial or something you need to push through to get to the next level? Our walk with God is like that. We need to go higher in Christ, which entails a greater measure of pressing in and faith.
James 1:2-4 encourages us, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
It's important to take a step back and evaluate our current life situation. Are there areas that we need to address? This could be in our environment, our physical health, our mental and emotional well-being, or our spiritual growth.
When I get clients who are in this place of struggle, some common "symptoms" are:
Fatigue, insomnia, low energy, body aches and pains, headaches, other body issues with hair and skin, brain fog, poor libido, difficulty concentrating, busy mind, underlying feelings of weakness, frustration, disappointment, relationship struggles, sadness, loneliness, overwhelm, internal conflict, inconsistent motivation, numbness, and more.
If we look at these symptoms, we can see how our bodies are affected by what we are carrying through stress or emotional turmoil. We need to spend time with the Holy Spirit to show us how to navigate the season we are in and also to get answers if that is what we are seeking. Some areas need practical attention to help our spirit, soul, and body cope on our way to overcoming. No one ever ran a marathon or climbed a mountain without some physical and mental stress, but they completed what they aimed to do. They overcame to finish the race or the climb.
Philippians 4:13 reminds us, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
So what are some of the things we need to pay attention to:
Our diet:
Do we need to cut out or lessen our intake of coffee, sugars, alcohol, and other substances that affect our nervous system and cause inflammation in our bodies?
Do we need more protein, fruits, vegetables, or supplements to help our bodies?
Our body:
Do we need to do stretching to release tension in our bodies?
Can we spend time doing breathing exercises to calm our nervous system?
Can we spend more time outdoors in nature?
Do we have a tech detox which affects our brain and our bodies?
Do we have a good sleep routine?
Are we saying no when we need to, or do we take on more and more?
Our mind:
Have we been spending enough time reading the Word?
Are we casting down negative thoughts?
Are we being mindful and staying present instead of looking back or dissociating from our circumstances through harmful habits and patterns of behaviour?
Are we doing things to de-stress?
Our spirit:
Are we spending enough time with the Lord to rest and refresh in Him?
Do we spend time with other believers who can encourage and lift us up?
Are we counting our blessings and being thankful for what we do have?
Are we savouring moments in our lives and finding joy despite the struggle?
We can see several things that can contribute to our struggles, and we often question God or wonder, "Is it me? Is it God? Or is it the enemy of our soul?" Whatever the answer to these questions, we still need to pay attention to what we need to be good stewards of, as this will help us through the struggle.
Sometimes, it is just a practical issue of not having balance in our lives, and then life becomes a constant struggle. If it is a season of testing so we can level up in our spiritual growth, we still need to be good stewards of our time with God to hear what He is saying. If we are under attack from the enemy, then we need to remember that we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us and that we have authority over the enemy in Christ.
Luke 10:19 says, "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
Isaiah 40:31 encourages us, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
We can overcome all things in Him, even if it is just the daily struggles we face or the bigger things in life. Remember, the Lord is with you every step of the way, and His promises are true. Keep your eyes on Him, stay steadfast in your faith, and trust that He will guide you through every trial.
Be blessed today!
